The children's book...

So I have decided to write AND illustrate my own children's book. This is a huge challenge for me, as I haven't written for children. Ever.

Having done my research on this, it seems to me that you have to take yourself back to your own childhood, to remember what appealed to you, and most importantly to THINK like a child would.

So I've tried to do that. I had a vivid imagination when I was a child so once I took myself back, it came quite naturally!!

The weird and wonderful can happen for a child, and that's how I started going about my planning of the story.

Animals seem to appeal to children, and after illustrating some animals before I decided to make one of these the central character. Illustrating animals comes naturally to me I'm the style that I do, due to the basic shapes that animals are made up of. Keeping the illustrations as simple as possible makes it easier on the eye in  art terms. Bright colours need to feature as children are drawn to these too.

Stay tuned for the next blog post about the children's book...
